The Focusing on Families Children’s Choir is designed to be a positive experience for every participant. Performers are asked to participate in a vocal evaluation at the beginning of each year.

How do evaluations work?

Evaluations generally take about 15 minutes. Parents/Guardians are asked to complete a registration form while performers are being evaluated.

What do I need to do to prepare?

Just come relax and ready to sing! There is no need to prepare an audition piece. Feel friend to bring a bottle of water.

What can I expect at an evaluation?

  • We will ask basic questions about your age, school, and any prior musical experience you have.
  • A few vocal warm up exercises to see your range and timbre
  • You’ll sing a few standard scales.
  • You’ll do some aural exercises, identifying pitches that you hear.
  • We’ll teach you a simple folk tune and/or a passage from our core repertoire and ask you to sing it.

Ultimately, your audition is a time for us to get to know each other a bit better, as well as to become acquainted with your vocal abilities. We are not looking for perfection—we’re looking for potential to grow and learn and smile.

Does I need music or vocal training?

Not at all!. We welcome any performer who is looking to learn. Prior music experience is helpful, but everyone will receive training at various times throughout the program year.

What type of time commitment is FFCC?

Rehearsals are each Thursday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. FFCC follows the Christina School District calendar and inclement weather policy. As performance dates get closer, a second rehearsal may be called on Tuesdays from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Being a participant in FFCC is a commitment and performers are asked to limit the number of missed rehearsals to a minimum.

What are the performance opportunities?

FFCC is committed to giving performers various performance opportunities. A end of the year showcase is the highlight of each season. Additional performances, such as nursing homes, hospitals, etc. are scheduled throughout the year to help participants gain confidence, experience, and exposure to vocal performance.
